TIRANA, ALBANIA: The Three-day Second International Conference on Foreign Investment in Albania, will be taking place in Tirana International Hotel, Tirana, Albania under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, the Prime Minister of Albania, and Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, the President of Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank, from 3-5 November 2009.

On Monday, the 2nd of November, the Prime Minister of Albania, His Excellency Sali Berisha hosted a welcome cocktail at the Palace of Brigades.

Today, Tuesday, the 3rd of November, the official opening speech was delivered by His Excellency, Sali Berisha, Prime Minister of Albania.

The keynote speech on the opening session was delivered by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed M. Ali, the President of the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank.

Mr. Suleiman Jasir Al-Herbish spoke on Opec Fund for International Development.

There are eight panels, such as i)Panel investigating in Energy Sector, ii) Success Stories on Concessions, iii) Investing in Minerary Sector and Gas, iv) Parallel Panels Investing in Tourism and Agriculture, v) Panel Infrastructure Investment opportunities, vi) Panel Investment in Energy Sector, vii) Panel International Financial Institutions, viii) Panel Banking Sector, ix) Panel Investment on Real Estate.

Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, said, “The significant progress that Albania made in the process of integrating the European Union, the achievement of the rate of economic growth of 6% during the last two years, as well as the increasing flow of foreign direct investments in Albania, are all good indicators that the implementation of the country strategy and the government efforts have to fruition. This is an encouraging sign for everybody.”

Speaking about the role of IDB in the development efforts, Dr. Ali said, “So far IDB has approved an amount of USD 141 million in favour of 21 projects, mainly in the field of agriculture, public utilities, social services, and transport. The IDB group will continue to support the growth and development of Albania through its operations and technical assistance in accordance with the Government priorities.”
